The Volt only has a resistive heater instead of a heat pump. Not very efficient, but the gas engine is there for really cold weather.
I use the fan setting unless it's really cold. The air heat drains the battery quick. With the seat heaters going, it's not bad.
Don't forget to air the tires back up if the pressure dropped. That impacts range too.
