Finally looked into my gearbox oils and for the daily Escort they appear to be synthetic, just need to double check the gear box type.
My truck on the other hand has mineral 80w/90, so I might change that to synthetic 75w/90. The gearbox is rather stiff until it warms up so a thinner oil might help with that.
I am thinking this weekend I might get some thermal insulation pannels and put them under the bonnet to try and retain heat in the engine bay.
