Not sure about the 3rd gen, but the 2nd gen trans fluid change interval is 100k. I wouldn't worry about it. I would definitely go with the Toyota brand ATF WS (or whatever is specced for the 3rd gen) that is made for the Prius trans though. As far as I know, there is no aftermarket equivalent. I've talked with a friend who is an Amsoil dealer and he recommended the Toyota brand fluid. Its not that expensive either. I paid $9 a quart for mine at a local dealer.
