New to Eco

Been reading forums here from over the years and finally registered. Am a Honda enthusiast but more importantly eager to learn and do it myself. Have a 96 civic built for autocross, a 91 CRX for a weekend/daily back up car, stock minus suspension and 91 civic sedan LX, bone stock. I'll be searching the threads and maybe making some in hopes that I can be led the right direction for my upcoming build on the sedan. It currently has the d15b2 but is on it's last leg. Burning rich, oil, coolant, some dinging here in there, and basically I'm ready to fix in the garage and not break down. My goal is to either put a d16y7 in as it seems they are more readily available, or what I would like is a d15z1. The goal is to make that the eco car for cross country vacation travels. Plans are to change sound deadening, replace inner/outer tie rods, upper control arms, wheel bearings, rotors, pads, springs, struts, rebuild a/c, install minor aero, and put a little in dash screen for the long trips. Any device or direction on making my swaps easier please inform me.
