Ben there, Done that

I have use 0w-20 in a 2001 Ford Expedition with a 4.6 liter engine. I was using 15w-40 diesel oil in it because of the high detergent content. I also used a mixture of Naptha, ATF and denatured alcohol to help clean out the engine when I got it. I could feel the difference in driving. Seemed more peppier and got about 1.5 mpg increase.
We must remember that oil is not only a lubricant but also a coolant. Remember that thin oil can go places that thicker oil cannot. Thin oil absorbs and relieves heat fast than thicker oil making your oil cooler work better. It also starts better in colder weather. The viscosity of the oil can'tbe confused with the film strength of the oil.
I have used 10w-40 Mobil in my racing engines for 5 years and I have never experienced a bearing failure or lubrication problem.
Mobil Racing 15w40 has a lot more Zinc in it.
