(long) Scangauge II vs. old European diesel Renault

This message to document my story... may be useful to a few people.

My cars are diesel Renault from 1997 and 2001.
In Europe, cars have to be EOBD (European name for OBD2) compliant since 2000 for gasoline and 2003 for diesel.
Telematica (European scangauge reseller) replied me the SG2 is non compatible with my cars when I asked them by mail.
My mechanic said me both cars are OBD2.

With all these information, I did a little research :
. some WEB pages say diesel Renault from 1998 are ISO-9141 (one of the
OBD2 protocols) and I verified on both cars that both connectors and pins
correspond to ISO : pins 4-5,7,15-16.
. My 1997 megane 1.9 dT (motor = F8Q 784) has a Lucas dpc ECU and no
WEB page talk about it and OBD2. Pins are 1,3-5,7,11,15-16.
. My 2001 scenic 1.9 dCi manual (motor = F9Q 792) has a Bosch msa 15.5
ECU. I found several WEB pages saying my motor (by ref [F9Q 732] and
year [2001]) is controlled by an edc 15c3, so I thought "msa 15.5" and
"edc 15c3" were synonyms. I found other WEB pages saying the "edc 15c3"
is compatible with ISO-9141. Pins are 1,4-7,14-16.

I bought a SG2 on 2008/08/03 on scangauge.net (European WEB site) and received it on 2008/08/11.
I hoped the SG2 to be at least partially compatible with my cars, giving me some relative information (TPS/LOD/Loop) even if it couldn't give me fuel efficiency accurately or at all.

Currently the SG2 doesn't communicates with the megane. I tried all protocols and speed, but it never connects.
With the scenic, the SG2 communicates with the ISO protocol, but whatever are the real speed, rpm, throttle position... the SG2 gives constant data, per ex 8128RPM... After a while, several LED may be on, such as ABS and ESP, meaning they are disconnected because of a disfunction.

Now I may try to build a OBD2 extension, with only the ISO pins connected. I want to try that because pins 6&14 on the scenic are documented for ABS.

I read somewhere that a few cars (no brand was mentioned) are OBD1.5. Physically as OBD2 but with OBD1 protocol and a few OBD2 codes. I hope at least the scenic is OBD2 and not OBD1.5 or proprietary. In the worse case, I'll have a brand new toy next time I change one of my car ;-)

Denis.
