Hey, Nice car, I joined just to respond to your intro. I used to own a 1986 VW golf and it took me everywhere, while saving me tons of fuel. I would always get over 1000km to a tank on the highway. One time I drove it 1150km and the gauge wasn't even in the red. I had been known to get about another 80-100km out of the remaining fuel. I loved the car, and I am sure it will show well above that very conservative EPA rating. In order to get the best fuel economy, I removed the interior except for the front seats and the dash. I turned back the fuel screw and advanced the timing, a lot. Have fun
Oh, and I removed the air filter snorkel, and used only the bottom half of the airbox, with the filter taped in.
