In his autobiography Peter Williams mentions that he and John Mockett were contacted by Kenny Roberts to do aero work on John Kocinski's TZ250 Yamaha. He says the new radiator with ducting was much smaller than the standard "enormous one". On a warm spring day of testing the new setup "was so effective that part of it had to be masked off, the radiator was, itself, less than half the area of the standard item. It was because air was flowing efficiently and effectively through the matrix whereas with the standard, large radiator most air passed across it and little flowed through it".

John Bradley mentions that after a seizure on one of his air-cooled road racers with the typical giant hole in the front of the fairing he added a simple duct to ensure the air actually reached the fins. "As a result, the bike would barely run because it would not stay hot enough. A hundred meters was enough to cool it right down. I therefore made the hole smaller and by the time it worked well the hole was tiny compared to the initial set-up."
