Rather than just slowing to 50 MPH, I would suggest finding the worst aerodynamic vehicle you can, then draft it for the trip at whatever speed they may be going. I get about 10% better economy when drafting a big rig versus trying to keep my speed 10 MPH lower.

It's the difference between 72 and 80 MPG.
