Exactly because of the larger amount of motor vehicles, it's better to consider other alternatives to gasoline and regular Diesel fuel that could be readily integrated to the supply chain. Fuel-efficiency standards are also not bad at all, but having them tied to unrealistic emission regulations just makes them more challenging to reach.

I wouldn't expect them to shut-off corn-based ethanol consumption, but relying at a single feedstock is not worth the risk.
