Sorry, I wasn't clear on the first post, I did the crank position sensor too. You are right, on mine the car would still run with the CPS disconnected.
I get no warnings, but Mercedes are odd in that they don't have low oil pressure lights or sensors for that matter.
Like yours I can bumpstart or restart with the newly installed starter button. Seems like a good solution.
