I have seen spoilers in the proposed location, they always looked like marketing department efforts and not something stemming from the aerodynamics lab.

Some of the old air-cooled Beetles of the 1960's were known for adding some fun looking stuff at the tail end but to little effect other than aesthetics. Such things look cool, but are of little to no value. The main value is "looking cool" in almost every case I'm thinking of.
