I only really ever listen to public radio and the occasional drive-in movie theater. Too easy to stick 10,000 songs on a flash drive these days and not deal with terrible radio-zombie music!
I've been driving around with the cheapy stick-on antenna laying on my dash and it does about what you have found: better than radio base, not as good as full factory antenna.
Hope you can find better... this is the best one I could find for stick-on-window types (all the same, there aren't many of them, it seems). My Subaru has one built-in to the window and does well, but I believe it is powered.
