To be fair, I hear a lot of rev-happy idiots on crotch rockets (sport bikes) too. The most annoying thing is to hear them cruising around in 2nd gear, making a ton of noise instead of getting good fuel economy. I'll go all the way to 6th gear at 35 MPH when I'm at a steady cruising speed. These bikes are geared very low.

Harley riders sometimes ask me when I'm going to get a real bike. My reply is "you mean real affordable, real reliable, real fast, and real smooth?"

I've got nothing against Harley riders in particular; people like what they like. The idiots that want to be loud just to get attention exist everywhere in society. In motorcycle culture, they attempt to justify the noise by saying "loud pipes save lives". I'm not so sure that is true, and being a vigilant and competent rider is much more important than expecting everyone to hear you and avoid.
