It's gone since the late 90's.
I had $8K in it and it still needed everything, when someone chose me to buy their Squareback for $300, running. I knew if I ever had a Squareback it would be hard to go back. I did buy and hold another one for a few years, but then times got hard.
I drove it to the Portland meet one year with the fresh hot rod primer over red oxide two-tone, and the next year Hot VWs showed Notchs in Southern California that used the same line, but with white over light blue (two or three of them). That makes the top look fat instead of chopped.
I do still have the 5-speed.
