For the Kombi, I would substitute the double-cab pickup: seating for five, a pickup bed and a lockable trunk.

For the 4WD Jeep, I would substitute the Veep/Veepster/Scamp:

VEEP (VW Jeep) & The Jago | eWillys







Capable off-road excepting rock crawling, and capable of freeway speeds. There are a dozen or more listed from under $1000 to $5000 dollars at the eWillys link.

If I were building one, I'd go for the stainless steel body out of Myrtle Creek, OR.
