Bonneville Speedweek

Monday was the first day of The Bonneville Nationals, aka Speedweek(Monday thru Sunday). On Monday the four fastest cars ran 371, 353, 340 & 334. (talk about low drag)

The Buckeye Bullet II the hydrogen-fuel cell car record holder at 132mph is expected to run again this year. Buckeye Bullet 2 Blog

Buckeye Bullet I (The OHIO STATE BUCKEYES) holds the record for an electric car, 314.958mph.

Buckeye Bullet I weighs over 4300 lbs, and is 31 ft long. Its power source consist of 5 packs of NI-Mh batteries (for a total voltage of 900 V) that provide power to a custom-built triphase AC motor, supplied by Shoemaker Industrial Solutions, which develop a power of over 500 HP. The DC current coming from the batteries is transformed in a triphase AC current by means of a Saminco inverter. The power coming from the electric motor is then transmitted through a 5 speed manual gear box to a differential and then to the rear wheels. Figure 2.10 provides a functional overview of the BB1.
