Scooters are so far more "specialized" as an urban runabout, while the "universal Japanese motorcycle" is pretty much as versatile as a Swiss-Army knife, and for budget reasons many of the low-displacement "racing replicas" have to share their engines with the no-frills utility motorcycles that cater to 3rd-world countries like mine.
