Saving and having money in a savings account aren't necessarily the same thing. Putting money in mutual funds is saving, as is contributing to a 401k/IRA. Paying off high-interest debt is also a form of saving - at least as long as it doesn't encourage you to go out and borrow more :-)
Parking more than a couple of months expenses in a savings account is usually a bad idea.
