My update

Bad news for me; I filled my tank today. There was no change in overall fuel economy. That said, this was another abnormal tank with lots of highway driving with the alternator.

1002 km / 40.84 L = 4.1 L/100km

My next plan is to increase the voltage to the ignition, injectors, and fuel pump to 15v or so. Theoretically they should spray better at higher voltage/pressure.

Possible reasons for a lack of results include the flow rate of the injectors being too high, I picked an out-of-balance set, and/or the natural variation between tanks offset the gains from the new injectors. And, of course, the possibility that a change of fuel injector design in this engine is not sufficient to cause any meaningful change in fuel economy.

Too bad you can't do an ABA test with injectors (fuel spill over a hot engine = bad).
