I shared a 1.5 Mbps DSL connection between my parents and grandparents house, about 450 ft away, with a wifi bridge.

I'd split a connection with neighbors if they are close enough.

I used to swap between DSL and cable every year to stay in the promotional period. To do this, it's best to have your wireless router separate from your modems.
