Our smallest diesel SUV or pickup over here is the 2.0L Jaguar F pace with a 5290 pound (2400kg) towing capacity. Then the 2.8 L GM Colorado size. Then you have the Audi/VW 3.0L 6 cylinders, the 3.0 Mercedes in a couple sizes, tye BMW 3.0L 6 cylinder, the 3.0L 6 from VM motori in the Jeep Grand Cherokee and the 1500 Ram pickup, and the Land Rover 3.0 which also might soon show up in the F150. That Jaguar is interesting to me, it is one of the less expensive and has the highest MPG.
As far as swapping goes, I've learned its a pretty easy swap to go up or down with the 5.9 to 6.7L Cummins, now I actually want to swap my 5.9 for a 6.7. the cost will almost be a wash when I need new injectors and the 6.7s are less expensive with less miles and seldom need injectors replaced (which is a $3000 job on the 5.9). t
Towing the 6.7 might actually improve MPG. My truck has 275,000 miles on it, I could never imagine buying something new and swapping the motor. All those smaller diesels listed above are pretty new as well. There were some small diesel Jeep Liberty's over 10 years old now but they demand a premium and the Liberty is about as crappy a Jeep ever made.
