In the early 80s a guy wrote a book about how he had thousands of satanic followers and he disbanded to spread them through the country, talked about how their cause required blood sacrifice of childern bla bla, bla. At the same time the fastest growing industry in the US was a relatively new one, it was the day care industry.
It wasn't too hard to figure out that obviously these day care startups were being started by the satanic followers.
And everyone lost their freaking minds.

Turns out the guy completely made up everything in his book and there was nothing to worry about, just like the hole in the ozone.
Pretty much like most of what you hear about global warming, they find what they need to find, jump to baseless conclusions or just flat out make it up.
