Perhaps you just have lower expectations? Because to me, 13 years is new. I'd expect 50 at least: no reason it shouldn't last as long as the house (given maintenance). And we do get wind speeds in that range around here (see Mark Twain quotations - Zephyr ). The above ground portions are pretty much fine, they just rot and snap off at ground level.
