How about Philippine Jeepneys? I was over there in 1978 and they were just using up the last of the WW2, Korea and Vietnam leftovers. Saw shops hand building new bodies out of stainless steel and aluminum. The owners put lots of money into metal horses to bolt onto the hoods. According to the tour guides, the Jeepney owners use those as an indicator of how prosperous they are.

Back to Japan, Dekotora! Apparently they don't have much government oversight of what kind of crap can be attached to semi trucks.
