Imports in most of Brazil were tightly restricted from '76 to '90, except for the Manaus free port zone. When my dad was still single, he used to see a reasonable amount of those Suzukis in Manaus, some stilll fitted with 2-stroke engines, and they were deemed so inexpensive that their owners would most often simply abandon them and import a newer one if something broke. I guess many of those who did it may now regret such decision...

I can't remember when Suzuki cars started to be offered in Brazil, but the Samurai soldiered on until '98 when the current generation of the Jimny was released. But anyway, back here it had always been available as a 4-seater, while in the U.S. and Canada it had been restricted to 2-seater (but I don't know when it started) due to NHTSA crash standards.
