Supersonic is definitely not viable for most commercial routes. Not just the engine inlet must have an adjustable cowl in order to get optimized for both subsonic and supersonic air flow, while the internal flow is always subsonic, fuel costs alone represent around 40% of the operating cost of an aircraft.
