It sounds noisy I plan on trying it on my old motorcycle eventually though. Another option might be a hall-effect setup or an infrared emitter/detector pair that can sense part of the drivetrain rotating. BUT, it might be a lost in translation thing. Looking at a vauxhall schematic , there are signal abbreviations that I do not recognize, i.e. KSP, IMO, EPS, do you or someone you know know what that means?

Also, B28 and B30 in the below picture appear to be rotation sensors of some sort, but I don't know what:
