A Cherokee was on my short list nine years ago when I got my S-10, was going to buy a Cherokee but an ice storm hit and I decided to find a car closer to home.
In short this project of
mannydantyla's is the path never taken for me, and I'd like to think that I would have done many of the same things.
My project:
You could simplify the rear attachments and leave an air-slot, just another idea, angle them inward like on the big rig you posted.

My roof wing w/air-slot.

And from same page, something adjacent conceptually.
If you hinge them like with the yellow circle photo above, experimenting to get the right angle could be hours of fun, plus the tailgate would be able to open.
On my list to-do, side wings for the cab - similar to what I'm proposing for your project's rear end.
My roof wing is sickle shaped, because that's the scrap piece I had left over from another project. Side wings or baffles will be rectangular.
I posted a nice sketch of the concept before but Photobucket ate it.
