Hi Will, that is awful. I'm sorry to hear of it.

Thanks for posting though; it seems we need reminders from time to time of the importance of paying attention on the road.

I'm not trying to diminish anything Will posted, but want to share this: Just a few days ago I was witness to a 5-car pile-up that happened right next to me while I was in the right lane and they were all in the left. It could so easily have been me in the middle of it too. The whole thing started when the #2 guy in the line wasn't paying attention and didn't notice that #1 guy had stopped to make a left turn. #2 laid on the brakes at the last second, and he might have been able to avoid rear-ending #1 were he not smacked three times in quick succession from behind. Nobody was speeding; it was all the result of tailgating and inattention. Made me think about it for quite a while afterwards.

Another time I'd come home from work and noticed a pile of glass and plastic in the street in front of my house. Turns out, a friend of mine's young daughter was fiddling around with tapes or CDs or something on the floor of the car and she totally rear-ended an unoccupied parked car. No injuries, but sure ruined her nice little car, and I never did find out how bad the other car was.

Constant vigilance!
