Volkswagens are a good example for this kind of engineering, it's quicker to just swap out the engines for service than overhaul it in the car
Also, probably a lot cheaper to get a working, less driven engine to swap versus getting all the rebuild parts. Not to mention machining cost at a shop.

I suppose the twingo is still one of the fine easy access for repairs type of cars?
