I started a job up in the heart of the beast, Seattle. I have driven exactly one time to work to salvage some aluminum they were throwing away, and taken the bus or train every other time. I don't know what MPG it gets but I get a 50 minute nap on the way in.
I still have to drive 13 miles one way to get on transit We may move if the job continues to be a good one.
My transit end point is a combined bus/train station, and I can opt to take the more expensive train if the traffic looks really bad, like it did yesterday.
