They ban them because the pedal only gang likes their space and their special lanes and paths they have gotten everyone else to pay for. If suddenly you had 10 times as many using bikes because they were no longer the stuff of sweaty chests and bicycle shorts what then? Every community has it's snobs but the bicycle community is one of the higher offenders. Same thing with mountain bikers big push to keep ebikes completely off forest service land. They are very short sighted IMO, you want as much multiple use as many places as possible. Otherwise the powers that want nobody at all in the forest will keep picking off user groups one by one. Hikers will say, I didn't complain when they closed the road because I didn't have a car. I didn't complain when they banned bikes because I didn't have a bike. I didn't complain when they banned horses because I didn't have a horse. When they banned hiking nobody was left to stand up for me... most probably thought Good! You didn't stand up for me when they kicked me out either!
