Are you planning to run it on ethanol or any other alternate fuel? BTW about some 15 years ago Volkswagen and Bosch performed some tests with a port-injection engine fitted with turbo, and it was tuned to have 3 different boost stages to alternate between gasoline, ethanol and CNG.

well, my lada had a non-crossflow, swirl-type combustion chamber (for better starting, even atomization and burning of even crappier fuel, but it raises piston temperature on higher revs so it gave really noticeable good results in the rain)

That might've been essential to withstand to the Russian winter, but would either demand an excessive enrichment of the mixture in warmer weather or a higher capacity cooling system. Well, since some moisture in the intake flow decreases the likelihood of knocks and pre-ignition, it's no surprise the engine would become more efficient under those conditions.
