From what I checked, they got more energy then the energy of the final laser beam which hit the core. But the energy of the final laser beam it's 1% or so of the energy fro equipments required to generate the laser beam.

This type of system was only supposed to achieve fusion for research. Now since it's the only nuclear fusion reactor to have ever worked reliability this design is being considered for commercial power application, much to the surprise of its creators.
