One of the reasons the resale price is so low on the older Leaf's is because so many of them were sold with various tax incentives. I remember seeing some areas that had $10,000 to $12,000 worth of write offs between fed, state, local, and utility company credits and deductions. And of course the lower range and somewhat defective early battery pack contributes to that lower resale price. I met a guy a few weeks ago with a 2011 Leaf with less than 50,000 miles on it that only had a remaining range of about 50 miles. It would be great for local use but I wouldn't want to pay more than $5000 for it.
