We had a 2006 Saturn Ion and it was really efficient for highway driving. I drove from Omaha, NE to Portland, OR going 77mph average with 5 people in the car, luggage in the trunk and still got about 40 mpg. That's amazing! I know I could have gotten over 50mpg driving 55mph or less. BTW, it was a salvage title car that I had purchased pretty cheap as you should. We had for about 4.5 years and sold it.
