The 1/2T 6.2L could already get 25-mpg at 60-mph while solo. That’s with a tonneau cover from a report I trust.
More than that seems pointless. It’s a truck, and meant for work. Given that number is pretty well the same as my “pre-emissions” 2004 Cummins, means there’s sure not any reason to buy diesel.
Gasoline was always easier to live with. And I can’t see a reason for the I4 ( I agree about engine stress vs longevity).
An Aerolid is what’s needed.
Tows a 12k trailer AND can do outstanding while solo.
