The two breaches, especially the one at the corner are odd.
I suppose if they made it continuous there would be more pressure on it.
I'd be tempted to seal those gaps up with some foil tape or rivet a thin strip of aluminum to it. I would not use screws, somehow it will end up in the tire with my luck lately.
