Fuel Lights are purposely set high to keep fuel in the tank for your pump.
Remember the fuel in your tank is the pump lubricant and coolant.
Your engine will not run long without either and the same goes for the pump.
While working at the corner gas station I replaced more pumps on cars that ran mostly on fumes than on the cars that were usually at least 1/2 full.
These were the people who also seemed to complain the most about the cost of repairs.
