You have causality reversed. The (expletives deleted) person who trashed LOTR by trying to make a movie out of it seems to have drawn most of his inspiration from Star Trek visuals, so it's really something like "movies which degrade classic fantasy works are really cheap space operas". If you actually read the book, it's quite different.
