The strongest possible roof would be an hemisphere. If you put a windmill on a pole and strap it to the side of a box-shaped wall, the vibration will tear it off.
If it is installed (vertical axis) at the summit of a dome, it will gain efficiency from the location and the 360° bracing of the shell will absorb the vibration better.
