Going back to the opening post of this very lengthy conversation, it's ridiculous in this day and age that folk still think something must be correct simply because there is a 'consensus'. More people than not agreed that voting Hitler in as chancellor would be a good thing, and there were eventually proven very wrong indeed. Citing consensus for a reason in believing in something is Emperors New Clothes syndrome.
Make up your own mind based upon the evidence laid before you. Don't be bullied into an opinion because someone is claiming a consensus, and therefore must be right. That's what gets us into these messes in the first place.
