It's cheaper.
Most of the cost of natural gas is the $30 per month surcharge. With the surcharge alone I could buy around 560lb or 144 gallons of propane.
To make it "worth having" natural gas service I would need to change the cooking range over to gas, the hot water heater to gas and the central heating unit to gas.
I would rather keep the central air heat pump and add a wood stove for supplemental heat, convert the electric water heater to heat pump, solar or wood stove heat and put in a propane range. As much as we cook a 100lb propane cylinder could last a year on the range.
