An interesting idea! I'm thinking maybe I should lay out my PCB to support using the rubber switches as-is as a cost-cutting measure now...
To be more economically/ecologically friendly, you might want to save the rest of the buttons, and place stickers over them to get more sets of "1" "2" and "3" buttons out of each calculator
