I did a failure mode test on shrink wrap tape. .
The tape is not UV stabilized .
6months
minor UV checks (~1/16-3/32" long). Adhesive holding strong. If this was in freespan, such as the air dam, would it have failed? Possibly, as a double layer like I used, in the air dam, at this point the UV would start compromising the second layer underneath these cracks small and slow but starting.
On the leading edge were the tape had a 2nd layer applyed on a 90° bias there were no signs of failure
9 months
Checks grew into cracks and tairs some foam showing
By 1 year it had cracked and lifted from glue/foam uv failure were exposed fron checks/cracks . Pices of tape came loose
The Blue foam bord had started turning brown from direct sun exposure as small bits disappeared. Leaving sections intact (light blue botches)
I Would suggest keeping this tape in the experimental category. Use it to run many short turm 3-6months (depending on sun exposure and time of year) ,or back to back tests. Such as diffrent corner shapes ducting angles, seam sealer on colorplast, but nothing permanent. Could also be used in mold making for fiber glass or carbon fiber (low temperature cure below 150° f)
