The vortex generators create counterrotating vortices that promote reattachment of the laminar flow to a surface that isn't there. You could peel them off and put them further forward.

No I don't. Ignore the mirror and look at that big chrome base between the door hinge and door handle. Consider modern practice on any new bus or fire truck. Technically a peep mirror, it is moved forward of the A-pillar — one of the most problematic areas.
