I feel like I wasted my time learning PalmPilot Graffiti (single stroke handwriting recognition).
The last PDA I owned was some sort of Dell Axim. It seemed super neat at the time since it had a Windows Mobile OS, WiFi, and could play videos, browse the web, and play mp3s.
Funny how technology goes in cycles.

Most phones are going to less ease of serviceability, likely because they can make it a smaller form factor that way, and more people are demanding water resistance / waterproofing. I think that's why Apple dropped the 2.5mm stereo jack (and to sell their $150 bluetooth earbuds).
According to one source I just found, cell phones have an average operational life of 21 months, so they are basically disposable items these days.
