My feelings on the Segway and it's clones have not changed since Dean Kaman "revolutionized transportation". I still have not come up with a situation where one would be better than a bicycle (including mall-cops). His self balancing wheelchair, that the Segway evolved from, is a wonderful idea.
But I do agree a mobility scooter seems a better fit for the OPs needs.
