ebike idea

i dont know if this has ben brought up before.
but i had an idea, dont know how it would be implemented but an idea nonetheless. i also dont own a ebike btw.

is it possible to have a FWD or RWD doesnt really matter electric bike motor become a generator to recharge some of the batteries when coasting?

because at a recent 26 mile non electric-bike trip (from home to washington DC) i realized that i could get away with a few cranks of the pedals and coasting for a time. a bit like pulse and glide. during that time, a electric bike would have its motor "off." its not powering the wheel(s) but it is still spinning.
would someone be able to convert that movement into a generator?
